Upcoming game this weekend

This weekend our group of enthusiast players will gather to play a small tournament. In preparation for Gothcon in april 2012 we need to learn how to speed up our gameplay as well as getting some routine.

My three gaming friends play; Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Tyranids, Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons.

Most probably they will play 2 eldar armies and sisters of battle or tyranids.

We have decided to play 1500 pts. I will post my armylist when i'm done with it.

So, until then i will have to paint my Vindicator and my new Terminators. At least basecoat and one layer of drybrushing.

6000 pts game

We lately took water over our heads and went out playing 6000 pts in total.

On one side we raised a total of a 3000 pts Eldars. The opposing side constisted of 1500 pts of my Crimson Fists and 1500 pts of my friends Sisters of Battle.

The setup was standard board size with a special mission from Battle Missions book, where the Eldars had the choice to Outflank with any of their units as well as choosing on which flank they should arrive from.

I manage to take one picture from this battle, a shame really because their was so many units on the table at the same time.

There  you can see my brave Assault Marines being charged by a band of Howling Banshies. That battle did not go all that well. Considering that 1 Assault Marine died from a Blade Storm shoot-out from the Dire Avengers I had my hopes up that they at least would last throughout my opponents turn but that where not the case.

All in all the battle was pure fun but way to much terrain on the table for 6000 pts. Lesson learned.

Space Marine Terminators

On wednesdays me and my pals have a weekly gathering for either gaming or painting and modeling. This have progressed some 2 years from now and it's basically why I started with this hobby again.

This night especially I had forgot my gear and bitz at my work, so i went by my local GW retailer and picked up a box of Space Marine Terminators.

They are now built up except for some magnetized arms for the Heavy flamer and Assault Cannon and the two extra Chainfists that comes in the box.

Here goes. Pictures

How I Paint My Crimson Fists Space Marines

How I Paint Crimson Fist Space Marines

I have never been a fan of mixing colors to get just that right and crisp tone, I just work my way up from a clean basecoat with drybrushing my highlighting colors until im satisfied. Although there are some steps in between that are crucial to have the right depth of the colors and especially on the armor.

Preparation
1 - Clean and assemble models.
2 - Drill holes and apply magnets where suitable.
3 - Glue sand to the tops of the bases.
4 - Spray with Games Workshop Chaos Black Primer.

Blue (armour)
1 - Start with a basecoat of Necron Abyss.
2 - Then liberally highlight with Vallejo Ultramarine Blue. No worries to overdo the drybrushing at this stage.
3 - Wash the entire model with Leviathan purple and let it dry for some hours
4 - Wash the enitre model with Badab black and again, let it dry for some hours
5 - Drybrush gently with Ultramarine Blue until you have achieved the right feel and highlighted edges

Crimson (hands, purity seals, lenses, squad/chapter markings)
1 - Start with a basecoat of Mechrite Red.
2 - Wash with Devlan Mud.
3 - Drybrush with the smallest brush with Blood Red.

Purity Seals (parchment)
1 - Basecoat with Vallejo Ivory.
2 - Wash with Delvan Mud.
3 - Highlight with Ivory again

Metal (weapons, chest eagle, decorative elements, trimings)
1 - Basecoat with Boltgun Metal.
2 - Wash with Badab Black.
3 - Lightly Drybrush blades with Boltgun Metal.

These recipes I found while trying to find out the best way to color my Crimson Fists.

I will update this post with pictures of every step as i go along...

Magnetized Vindicator/Rhino

Just finished my Vindicator/Rhino build. I decided to keep it low on budget and magnetize the whole thing. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the process of making this kick-ass monster. But ill surely put up some pictures of the build.

I used magnets from both modifx which i bought from Maelstromgames and they suited my needs perfectly.

Techmarine with Servitors - Finecast

I was just downtown to pick up a box with a Techmarine and his companion Servitors. I have read a lot about Finecast and their lack of quality. But while not afraid of that I went home to have some quality time (my girlfriend was out with her friends). Sadly I realized that not only was the set badly miscast it also missed some of the arms that your'e supposed to attach to the Techmarines Harnesses.

This is what the box contained. I cannot seem to remember reading that much about missing parts out of Finecast boxes, although the more about miscasts and excess resin just like on the three servitors.

So, i e-mailed Games Workshop Customer Services on saturday,

My e-mail:

"Hi,

I was just downton picking up the new Finecast Techmarine with Servitors and once i had opened the package i realized that some parts are missing.

I will attach an image of the contents of the box. The Techmarine Body was loose and clearly had some big issues, the eyesockets are too deep and some parts of the scrolls are badly cast.

On top of that two of the arms that are supposed to attach to the harness is missing. So the whole sprue where the Techmarine body use to be attached to is missing. Hope we can resolve this as fast as possible.

Cheers"

Games Workshops answer this tuesday,

"Hello Brutus,

Thanks for your email and we're sorry to hear about this issue you have encountered with our new Finecast range. At Games Workshop we strive to ensure that all of our products reach you in the best possible condition, unfortunately however a few mis packed products do slip through our tight quality control checks.

As such we would like to replace the kit for you, if you could reply back with a preferred delivery address we will be happy to organize this for you.

Looking forward to hearing back from you."

Just hopefully I will receive a new box of a Techmarine with Servitors in a not so far future.
I will give you an update with the progress.

Over and out!
